Meet the new chairpersons and their focus areas
Elections at the Legal Tech Association Germany
On April 18, 2024, the General Assembly elected Alisha Andert, co-founder of This is Legal Design and Stefan Schicker, Partner (Of Counsel) at SKW Schwarz and innovation consultant, as the new chairpersons of the association for the next two years. Stefan Schicker succeeds Dr. Philipp Plog, Managing Partner at Fieldfisher and founding member of the association.
“It’s a fast-moving association and after four years, I want to make room for new ideas,” said Plog during his farewell speech last week at the General Assembly in Berlin. As the association’s first chairman, Philipp Plog played a key role in shaping its development and will remain involved in a strategic advisory capacity as a member of the advisory board. Under his leadership, the association helped shape Germany’s Legal Tech legislation, made numerous appearances before the legal affairs committee on a wide range of legislative initiatives (including Legal Tech debt collection, success-based fees, centralized oversight, class actions, mass litigation, model case procedures, etc.), conducted a comparative study on the digitalization of justice across different countries, and launched a market study of the Legal Tech sector in Germany.
The new leadership team faces exciting challenges. Over the past two years, the association has grown from 60 to more than 170 member organizations. “Interest continues to rise, and the potential of Legal Tech is greater than ever,” said Alisha Andert, who co-founded the association and successfully stood for re-election. The association brings together not only Legal Tech companies but also law firms, legal departments, legal expense insurers, software providers, and media companies. “This diverse membership gives us the potential to become the most influential voice in the German legal market,” Andert added. She will continue to lead the association’s efforts in the areas of events and member services.
Stefan Schicker will focus on expanding the association’s work in the area of artificial intelligence. “The transformative power of (generative) AI will fundamentally reshape the legal market. In my new role with the Legal Tech Association Germany, I see a unique opportunity to spotlight AI’s potential in the legal sector and play a key role in shaping this revolutionary future,” said Schicker.
The political pillar of the association will also remain a core priority for the new leadership. Two major initiatives are already in the pipeline: the first Legal Tech Market Monitor and a new study on non-lawyer ownership in the legal sector.
